  • Perennials can be planted anytime time from early spring to late
    fall.  
  • Thoroughly and deeply spade the soil and surrounding area.
  • Add generous amounts of organic matter to the soil if necessary.
  • Saturate the root ball before planting  by immersing it in water.
  • Place a balanced fertilizer on the surrounding soil after planting.
  • Inundate the planted perennial and adjacent area with water.
  • Place a layer of bark mulch  or other composted material  
    approximately 4" deep or more to conserve moisture.
  • Monitor the plant for moisture needs until the perennial is
    extablished.
Perennial Questions
What is a Perennial?  A perennial is a plant that typically will come back year after
year.
What size of a Perennial should I plant?  Overall, it is more advantageous to buy
and plant a larger perennial.
What is Xeriscaping?   Xeriscaping is a Greek word that conotates good
landscaping  practices.  It is a cultural program that focuses on conserving moisture
through proper cultural practices such as mulching, and watering deeply but less
often.   
I want Drought Tolerant Plants!  Most perennials are already low water
requirement plants.  Nearly all perennials only need to be watered deeply once a
week if they have been mulched..  Most can go for a considerably longer period.
